چکیده

In today's embedded software systems development, non-functional requirements (e.g., dependability, maintainability) become more and more important. Simultaneously the increasing pressure for developing software in shorter time and at a lower cost pushes software industry towards product lines solutions. To support product lines for high quality embedded software, quality models are needed. In this paper we investigate to which extent existing quality modelling approaches facilitate high quality software product lines. First, we define several requirements for an appropriate quality model. Then, we use those requirements to review the existing quality modelling approaches. We conclude from the review that no single quality model fulfils all of our requirements. However, several approaches contain valuable characteristics. Based upon those characteristics we propose the Prometheus approach. Prometheus is a goal-oriented method that integrates qualitative and qualitative approaches to quality control. The method starts quality modelling early in the software lifecycle and is reusable across product lines.

Strategies for variability transformation at run-time

More and more approaches propose to use Software Product Lines (SPLs) modelling techniques to implement dynamic adaptive systems. The resulting Dynamic Software Product Lines (DSPLs) present new challenges since the variability transformations used to derive alternative configurations have to be intensively used at runtime. This paper proposes to use the Common Variability Language (CVL) for mo...

Feature Petri Nets

In software product line (SPL) engineering, formal modelling and verification are critical for managing the inherent complexity of systems with a high degree of variability. The number of products in an SPL can be exponential in the number of features. Therefore, the challenge when modelling SPL lies in analysing and verifying large, complex models efficiently, in order to ensure that all produ...

Using a Configurator for Modelling and Configuring Software Product Lines based on Feature Models

We show how WeCoTin, an academic prototype product configurator originally designed for non-software products, can be used to create and edit feature models of software product lines. Further, we show that WeCoTin enables the easy configuration of software product lines, i.e., generating descriptions of valid products in the product line.

Variability Modelling for Model-Driven Development of Software Product Lines

Model-driven development of software-intensive systems aims at designing systems by stepwise model refinement. In order to create software product lines by model-driven development, product variability has to be represented on every modelling level and preserved under model refinement. In this paper, we propose ∆-modelling as an generally applicable variability modelling concept that is orthogo...

Carrying Ideas from Knowledge-Based Configuration to Software Product Lines

Software variability modelling (SVM) has become a central concern in software product lines – especially configurable software product lines (CSPL) require rigorous SVM. Dynamic SPLs, service oriented SPLs, and autonomous or pervasive systems are examples where CSPLs are applied. Knowledge-based configuration (KBC) is an established way to address variability modelling aiming for the automatic ...
